About
History
Lynwood United Reformed Church was organized over 125 years ago on December 28, 1877. The church was comprised mainly of first generation Dutch immigrants who made the move from their homeland to the Roseland, Illinois area. The church’s original name, the “True Holland Reformed Church” reflected the congregation’s Dutch heritage as well as their dedication to the Biblical and Reformed faith (http://www.geocities.com/r_e_pot/pamphlets/).
Our church faithfully served the Roseland area for nearly 100 years. But in 1973, we made the move from Roseland to our current location in Lynwood, Illinois. Although the church underwent many changes down through the generations, the fact is, the congregation never lost its fervor for the Biblical and Reformed faith. In 1995, Lynwood church joined a Federation of like-minded churches called the United Reformed Churches in North America.
Our current pastor (the 12th in our long history), is Rev. Keith Davis, who was installed on May 26, 2002. In December of that same year, we celebrated our 125th anniversary as a congregation. Our anniversary theme was Great is thy Faithfulness, a tribute to God’s loving and sovereign care for us day by day and year by year.
